Matching is overrated: Mix & Match dinnerware

Last christmas, my lovely sister gave me a lovely set of mismatched bowls from Anthropologie. They’re so colorful and cute that I even featured them in my Buttercream Perfection post.

Ever since I got those, I’ve been mix and matching them with other plates and bowls I gattered all around from travels and gifts. The funny thing is that I used to be a very matchy-matchy tabletop kind of girl – not to say boring. Long did I dream of having a brand new dinnerware set, and when I finally got to throw out my old broke-student-appartment table stuff, oh lord was I happy!

But those days are over! (Good thing because half the pieces of my set are already chipped or broken…) I am obsessed with chic boho style, colorful and detailled pieces perfectly mixmatched together!

Here are some inspirations I gathered while shopping for stuff:

Vintage plates and cups also make a nice mix. You can find lots of those at thrift stores. The key is to go often, and choose a specific theme that will add a little bit of coherence to the lot, like for exemple pastel colors, flowers, golden accents or even oriental designs.

Anthropologie is an awesome source of unique plates and bowls. I especially like these two:

Alright, gotta go hunting for plates! Might need more than  originally tought… Just look at that cutie plate wall!!!

These are all adorable :) But even when mismatching I feel like you have to have a certain theme (like you said). Either similar patterns or colors that go well together.

Oww O.o love them! The effect is really great, they give this feeling of joy, don’t know how to explain it.
    Great pictures!

I too have a weakness for patterned dishes, I love your bowls! Your Sister is officially an awesome gift giver in my books :)
